The Katsina State Government has pledged full support for the establishment of a National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) outreach centre in the Dan nejin community of Mahuta district, Kafur Local Government Area.
The centre, a project of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, aims to boost livestock farming and improve animal husbandry practices in the region.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir, made this commitment while receiving a letter of recommendation for the project from Dr. Yunusa Mohammed Isiyaku, who represented the ABU Vice Chancellor, Professor Kabiru Bala. Alhaji Nasir assured that the letter would be presented to Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda for prompt action.
Alhaji Nasir highlighted the centre’s potential job opportunities and strengthened Katsina’s agricultural sector.
“The proposed outreach centre will not only create jobs for young men and women but will also become a pivotal institution for Katsina and other northwestern states,” he said.
He further emphasized the importance of advanced animal husbandry knowledge, noting that the centre would give centres and agriculture students a platform to enhance their skills and improve livestock production.
He praised the Daneji community for embracing Governor Radda’s community development initiatives, describing the project as a step toward economic growth.
“This will allow local businessmen and women to tap into opportunities that can multiply their income and expand their ventures,” he added.
Earlier, Dr Isiyaku explained that the proposed centre followed a request submitted by a delegation led by Danejin Katsina, District Head of Mahuta.
He outlined the centre’s objectives, which include providing training and extension services to livestock farmers, conducting on-site research, and enhancing breeding practices through genetic improvement programmes.
“The establishment of this outreach centre will have direct and long-term benefits for livestock farmers, the local economy, and the agricultural sector, not just in Katsina but across the region,” Dr Isiyaku stated.
The Katsina State Government reaffirmed its commitment to agricultural development and promised to work closely with ABU Zaria to ensure the successful establishment of the NAPRI outreach centre.
