The Katsina State Government, under the leadership of Governor Umaru Dikko Radda, has announced plans to feed over two million vulnerable residents across the state during the holy month of Ramadan.

This initiative is part of the administration’s broader commitment to alleviating hardship among the less privileged.

Governor Radda made the declaration while launching a special empowerment program for 7,220 widows across the state’s 34 local government areas (LGAs).

As part of the Ramadan package, 840 widows from Batagarawa, Katsina, Rimi, and Kaita LGAs received a 25kg bag of rice and cash assistance to support their families.

The governor described the initiative as a significant step towards improving the welfare of vulnerable women and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to providing relief to those in need.

He urged beneficiaries to use the support for their families’ sustenance, rather than selling the aid.

“We are committed to ensuring that vulnerable groups, particularly women and children, do not go hungry during this sacred month.

Our goal is to reach over two million residents with food assistance to ease their burden,” Governor Radda stated.

The Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Isah Dubai, commended the governor’s efforts, noting that the initiative aligns with Islamic teachings on caring for the needy.

He praised the Community Development Programme (CDP) for its role in ensuring fair distribution by selecting 20 widows from each ward across the 34 councils.

The Katsina State Government’s large-scale feeding initiative reflects its ongoing efforts to support vulnerable communities while continuing infrastructure and development projects aimed at enhancing the lives of its citizens.

Similarly, the state government within the week, released the second consignment of over 5,000 bags of rice for the remaining fifteen days of Ramadan under the Special Ramadan Feeding Programme.

During an address to members of the Steering Committee on the Ramadan Special Feeding Programme, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Nasiru Yahya Daura, expressed appreciation for the committee members’ sacrifice toward ensuring fair delivery of the programme, noting that “possible problems detected would now be rectified.”

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir, admonished all members of the Steering Committee “to bear in mind that the trust bestowed on them requires total sacrifice and commitment for the success of government humanitarian gesture.”

Nasir further stated that “the state government had made careful analysis to ensure the processed food effectively covers the targeted beneficiaries.”

Also speaking, the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu Taraji, provided a breakdown of the items and cash set aside for the programme.

Confirming that “delivery of the food items would be completed before the fifteenth day of Ramadan.”

He encouraged stakeholders in the state to contribute to ensuring the program’s success, emphasizing that “government is more committed to supporting vulnerable people in the state.”

Alhaji Turaji equally noted that this commitment prompted the launch of another special package for 7,220 identified widows and vulnerable women, who each received 25 kilograms of rice and a stipend of N10,000.

The State Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy, Malam Bashir Tanimu Gambo, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Ya’u Umar Gwajo Gwajo, expressed gratitude to the State Governor for implementing additional policies intended to support the common man.
