Katsina State government has condoled with the families of the eight persons killed at the Yannasarawa community in Faskari local government area of the state.
The secretary to the state government (SSG) Abdullahi Garba Faskari paid a condolence visit to the community on behalf of Governor Umaru Dikko Radda at the weekend.
He expressed deep sorrow and heartfelt sympathy to the families of those who lost their loved ones.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to fighting the undesirable elements until the state is rid of banditry and other heinous crimes.
A statement issued by the SSG’s director of press, Abdullahi Aliyu Yar’adua, said the government scribe embarked on a house-to-house visit and assessed the state of devastation by the bandits.
The SSG said, “He was conducted round to inspect the eight scraped vehicles, 10 houses and 12 shops that were burnt to ashes by the terrorists.”
The statement also explained that a member of the vigilante group in the village who begged for anonymity said they engaged the bandits when they attacked the village around 9:00 pm but because they were outnumbered and the sophisticated weapons and ammunition the bandits had, they (vigilantes) were forced to retreat.
“Despite our weaknesses, we were able to count seven casualties on the part of the bandits,” he claimed.
The bandits who laid siege to the village last week also kidnapped 45 persons comprising; 37 females and eight males who are mostly in junior secondary school.
