Kebbi State government yesterday approved the immediate release of N3.5 billion as the state’s counterpart funds for the 2024 Universal Basic Education (UBE) marching grant.
This was announced by the executive chairman of the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board ( SUBEB), Professor Suleiman Khalid Jega to journalists in Birnin Kebbi.
He said,” The release of these funds by His Excellency, Governor Nasir Idris, will enable the state government to access an equivalent amount from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) of over N7.1 billion for another round of UBE intervention projects.”
He added that the projects to be executed include the construction of new classrooms, renovation of dilapidated ones, supply of furniture, and installation of water and sanitation facilities in primary and junior secondary schools across the state.
Prof Jega also explained that the funds would be used to provide perimeter fencing, information and communication technology (ICT) equipment, agricultural education tools and sports materials to enhance teaching and learning in the schools.
He commended Governor Nasir Idris for his foresight and care for education, particularly primary, junior, and senior secondary schools.
