The Kebbi State government has confirmed that the transiting bandits attacked the Visiting MOPOL Base at Makuku town, Sakaba Local Government Area of the state.
The gallant troops engaged the criminals in a fierce exchange of fire during which a police vehicle was burned, but without human casualties.
The director of Security, Cabinet Office, Abdulrahman Usman Zagga, confirmed to journalists at Bagudo that the government immediately sought air support and reinforcement for soldiers.
He said a Fighter jet responded, while infantry was deployed, and normalcy was restored to Makuku town.
However, he commended the efforts of security personnel investigating the incident. To the community’s delight, MOPOL will be maintained in the area.
Zagga insisted that Governor Nasir Idris has directed security reinforcement while the air component of the operation is on 24-hour standby.
He described the rainy season as the most lucrative period for these hardened criminals, and lush vegetation protects them from air surveillance.
Rustled cattle feed well, these bandits are merciless and bloodsuckers, assured the government is on top of the situation, it’s a matter of time, we shall overcome.” The director said.
