The state government will synergise with the ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs to pool agriculture extension staff in the 20 local government areas of the state for better performance.
The commissioner for agriculture and natural resources, Alhaji Shehu Mu’azu stated this yesterday during a ministerial briefing organised by the ministry of information and culture held at Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
Mu’azu said his ministry also has intended to continue sourcing and distribution of solar powered and LNG/CNG powered irrigation pumps aimed at irrigated agriculture across the state.
The commissioner said within eight months of this administration, fertiliser worth N2.6 billion have been distributed to farmers free of charge.
He said the administration has also ensured control of Quelea birds during the wet and dry season of 2023 in order to prevent the destruction of millets and rice, procured 6000 units of solar powered irrigation pumps and distributed them to farmers in the state and procured and distributed 300 power tillers to farmers’ cooperative group and society.
He however noted that the government has also intended to visit fields to identify suitable sites for the establishment of the maiden farm centre, particularly in the Kebbi Central Senatorial District.
