Secretary to the Kebbi State Government and chairman, National Organising Committee, Yakubu Bala Tafidan Yauri, disclosed this yesterday at a news conference in Birnin Kebbi.

The SSG also indicated that the festival which would commence with cultural dances, agricultural show, sports, entertainment and water maneuvers was originally organised by Gungu people of Yauri Emirate and started about 200 years ago.

“This is a festival which served as a training exercise for Gungu people where they displayed their strengths and courage during trips on rivers and also attacked dangerous animals like hippocampus,” Yauri said.
