Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that his greatest career fear is failing to recognise the right time to retire from the music industry.
The singer disclosed during a recent interview that has gained significant traction online. Despite his global success, Davido admitted that the pressure to maintain a lasting legacy often makes him consider the timing of his eventual exit.
“My biggest fear is not knowing when to quit music,” the singer stated. He explained that he frequently prays for the wisdom to step away while his reputation is still intact, rather than overstaying his welcome.
Davido cited the public treatment of football legend Cristiano Ronaldo during the last World Cup as a major influence on his perspective. He noted that, despite Ronaldo’s historic achievements, the veteran athlete faced criticism and ridicule toward the end of the tournament, a lesson in how quickly public perception can change.
The singer, who recently marked 16 years in the industry, emphasised that he hopes to leave the stage before the applause dies down, ensuring his legacy remains untarnished by a decline in performance or relevance.
