Scores of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including ward executives, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State, declaring support for the second-term ambition of the senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The defectors, drawn largely from Adavi West Ward, included key APC officials such as the party’s Youth Leader, who formally announced their resignation from the ruling party alongside several members and supporters.

The defection event, held on Monday, attracted party faithful, community leaders and supporters who gathered to welcome the new members into the PDP fold. Also present was the member representing Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdulrahaman Badamasuiy.

Addressing the gathering, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan described the mass defection as a sign of growing confidence in the PDP’s vision of inclusive leadership, development and effective representation.
She welcomed the new members and commended their decision to align with the opposition party.

“I warmly welcome our brothers and sisters who have chosen to join the Peoples Democratic Party today. Your decision reflects your belief in a better future for our people and your commitment to the progress of Kogi Central and Kogi State as a whole,” she said.

The senator assured the defectors that the PDP remains committed to fairness, justice, equity and equal opportunities for all, regardless of political affiliation.

She urged members to remain peaceful, committed and focused on grassroots mobilisation, stressing that political success depends on unity, hard work and service to the people.

“The strength of every political party lies in its people. Let us remain united and committed to the ideals of good governance, democratic participation and community development. Together, we will continue to advance the interests of our people and create opportunities for future generations,” she stated.

Akpoti-Uduaghan added that the PDP remains open to individuals committed to genuine development, accountability and people-centred governance.

“Our party is open to everyone who believes in genuine development, accountability and people-centred leadership. Together, we will continue to build a stronger and more united political movement that prioritises the welfare and aspirations of our people,” she added.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, the new entrants pledged loyalty to the PDP and expressed readiness to contribute to the growth and success of the party.

They also assured the senator of their commitment to mobilising support for her re-election bid and strengthening the party’s grassroots structure across Adavi Local Government Area.

The latest defections are expected to strengthen the PDP’s presence in Adavi and boost its political standing in Kogi Central ahead of future electoral contests.
