A councillor representing Ogugu Ward III in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, Rosemary Aduku, has reportedly died while in captivity of her kidnappers. Her corpse has been recovered by the community.

LEADERSHIP gathered from members of the village that she was kidnapped last week on her way to Onitsha, in border town between Kogi and Enugu State.

Her death was announced on Friday by the Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Dr Ameh Williams, in a statement issued on behalf of the Olamaboro Executive Council.

Aduku, popularly known as Hon. Rosella among her colleagues, was described as a humble, dependable and compassionate politician who was committed to the happiness and well-being of those around her.

In the statement announcing her death and burial arrangements, Williams expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the late councillor as a remarkable individual whose contributions to her community and colleagues would not be forgotten.

The statement read, “It is with deep sorrow we announce the sudden demise of our dear sister and colleague, Hon. Mrs Rosemary Aduku, the Honourable Councillor representing the good people of Ogugu Ward III in the 8th Olamaboro Legislative Council.”

The council chairman said Aduku was widely respected for her humility, reliability and positive disposition towards others.

“Hon. Rosella, as she is fondly called among her colleagues in the council and members of the Olamaboro Executive Council, has been a wonderful soul and down to earth.

“She has been a reliable fellow whose idea is to make everyone around her happy. Though your life was short-lived, we will definitely take solace in your legacies and testimonies we have received since your demise,” the statement added.

Williams also extended condolences to the bereaved family, members of the Olamaboro Legislative Council, the Executive Council and the entire Ogugu community over the loss.

He prayed for God to grant the deceased eternal rest and give her loved ones the strength to bear what he described as an irreparable loss.

“Adieu, Hon. Mrs Rosemary Aduku,” the statement concluded.
The burial was scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday at her family compound in Ogugu Centre.

The chairman also called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to attend the burial and join the community in paying their last respects to the late councillor.
