The Village Head of Kurmin Wali, Ishaku Dan’azumi, has said his community was still under threat as security operatives stationed in the area after the abduction of over 100 worshippers from three churches on 17 January 2026 all left.
Dan’azumi said the community awaits the safe return of the kidnapped worshippers ten days after the horrific incident, describing the situation as heartbreaking.
Speaking with our correspondent on the telephone on Tuesday, the Village Head, Dan’azumi, who was disturbed, said that after Governor Uba Sani visited Kurmin Wali, commiserated with the residents, and left, the security operatives deserted the community without a word.
While begging the security agencies to protect the community, Dan’azumi commended the Kaduna state government and the Federal Government for their assurances and efforts to rescue the victims, “We are appealing to security agencies to return and protect the Kurmin Wali community. Security agencies, like the police, were in this community when the incident happened, but they all withdrew and left. We thank Kaduna state governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his tireless efforts for the rescue of the worshippers”
He added, “It was only last Sunday that the security men and women came here, but after the church service, the security operatives left. Since then, we haven’t seen any security personnel here. You know we are in a terrible situation, as our people are still in captivity, and we don’t know when they will return. Without a security presence here, our minds are not at rest. We are even more afraid because of the absence of security people,” Dan’azumi pleaded.
The Kurmin Wali Village Head, Dan’azumi, had disclosed to LEADERSHIP on Monday that the suspected bandits who kidnapped over 100 worshippers have demanded N250m and 20 motorcycles as ransom to release the victims.
Recall that a total of 177 worshippers were abducted during the attack, but 11 later escaped and returned to the Kurmin Wali community with injuries and signs of trauma.
The three affected churches in the area were Cherubim and Seraphim 1 and 2, as well as Evangelical church Winning All (ECWA).
Kaduna state governor, Uba Sani, after visiting the community, had ordered free treatment for victims of bandit attacks who were receiving treatment at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna.
