Kwankwasiyya Movement Demands Probe Into Alleged PFIPC Budget Controversy

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has called for a comprehensive investigation into the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), saying the issue has gone beyond the actions of any individual and now raises fundamental questions about public accountability.

In a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesperson, Habibu Sale Mohammed, the movement described the unfolding controversy as “a serious test of the credibility, transparency, and accountability of the federal government.”

The group noted that although the Presidency has denied the existence of the PFIPC and distanced itself from individuals claiming to represent the body, reports that more than ₦1 billion was appropriated in the 2026 budget for an entity bearing the same or a similar name require a full public explanation.

According to the statement, “This controversy cannot simply be dismissed as the misconduct of one individual. Nigerians are entitled to know” how a council the Presidency says never existed found its way into the national budget, who proposed and approved the allocation, which government offices processed the documentation, whether any public funds were released, and how allegedly forged official documents were used “for such a long period without detection.”

The movement stressed that the issues raised transcend politics, insisting that they concern the proper management of public resources.

“These are not partisan questions. They are questions of public accountability,” the statement said.

It further stated that the administration of President Bola Tinubu, which assumed office on the promises of renewed hope, institutional reform and responsible governance, should demonstrate its commitment to those pledges by providing a full account of the matter.

The group warned that “Silence, contradictions, or attempts to shift responsibility will only deepen public distrust.”

It also cautioned that the controversy could undermine Nigeria’s credibility among foreign investors, noting that confidence in the country’s investment climate depends not only on sound economic policies but also on the integrity and transparency of its public institutions.

The movement therefore urged the Presidency to “publish a comprehensive account of the facts, including the origin of the budgetary provision, the administrative processes involved, and the actions being taken to prevent similar occurrences.”

It also called on the National Assembly, anti-corruption agencies and other oversight institutions to conduct independent investigations into the matter in accordance with the law.

Reaffirming its commitment to promoting transparency and accountability, the Kwankwasiyya Movement declared that it would continue to advocate for openness in public governance.

“Every naira appropriated belongs to the Nigerian people, and every public institution must be accountable to them,” the statement said, adding that, “The Nigerian people deserve the truth, and they deserve it without delay.”
