Former Kano State Governor and National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has raised an alarm over the rising wave of insecurity across the country, calling on the Federal Government to strengthen national security operations to halt the disturbing trend urgently.

In a statement released on his X handle @kwankwasoRM on Wednesday, Kwankwaso described the kidnapping of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State as deeply worrying, warning that the incident mirrors troubling patterns from previous mass abductions in the North.

He also condemned the killing of Brigadier General M. Uba by terrorists in Borno State, calling it one of the darkest moments in the nation’s fight against insurgency. Kwankwaso said the circumstances surrounding the senior military officer’s death reflect shocking intelligence and operational failure, urging the Federal Government to launch a thorough investigation.

The former Defence Minister further expressed concern over fresh mass kidnappings in Zamfara State, describing the development as heartbreaking and calling for the immediate rescue of all abducted victims.

Turning to Kano State, Kwankwaso said the recent upsurge in bandit attacks across Shanono and Ghari Local Government Areas requires urgent federal intervention. While commending the Kano State Government for providing operational vehicles to security agencies as part of emergency response measures, he insisted that the responsibility for securing the country rests squarely on the Federal Government.

“These incidents are not isolated; they reveal serious setbacks in the battle against insecurity,” he said.

Kwankwaso urged the government to take decisive action by reinvigorating the armed forces and empowering the Nigeria Police Force to safeguard communities against terror attacks and criminal activities effectively.

He stressed that Nigeria cannot afford further deterioration of security conditions and called for immediate, coordinated measures to restore public confidence and protect lives across the country.
