Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, yesterday hosted prominent political figures in Kano, fuelling fresh speculation over a possible opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Among those at the Sallah visit to Kwankwaso’s Miller Road residence were the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi; Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde; and former Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson.

Also present were Isaac Idahosa, Bayo Lawal, Nejanatu Mohammed, and other dignitaries.

LEADERSHIP gathered that Makinde and Dickson were earlier received at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport by the Kano State deputy governor before proceeding to Kwankwaso’s residence, where they held a closed-door meeting.

Addressing a large crowd of supporters, Obi said his visit was primarily to celebrate Sallah and pay homage to Kwankwaso.

“I am here to felicitate with you on the occasion of Sallah and to pay my respects to our leader,” he said.

He, however, stressed the need to revitalise Kano’s industrial base, noting that efforts must be made to restore the state’s economic strength.

“We want to build a new Kano by reviving industries in Bompai and Sharada, as well as institutions like the Bank of the North,” he added.

The meeting comes amid increasing political consultations and alignments among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Recall that Kwankwaso had in February 2026 held a similar closed-door meeting with Governor Makinde in Ibadan, a move that heightened speculation over a possible alliance aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
