Kwankwaso-led NNPP Dissociates Self From Protest At INEC Office

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) loyal to the party former presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dissociated itself from a proposed protest march against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) scheduled for Tuesday, January 20, 2026 in Abuja.

In a statement released yesterday, the national publicity secretary of NNPP, Bamofin Ladipo Johnson, said the party is not involved in the planned protest and describing the individuals behind it as impostors.

LEADERSHIP recalls that the NNPP has been embroiled in a leadership crisis, with two factions – one led by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and the other by Dr. Agbo Major in the Aniebelom camp, claiming to represent the party.

The crisis began in 2023, with the Kwankwaso-led faction expelling Dr. Agbo Major and other members, citing anti-party activities.

However, a Federal High Court ruling in April 2024 affirmed Dr. Agbo Major’s leadership, declaring the expelled members impostors.

The dispute has led to multiple court battles, with the Agbo Major-led faction securing injunctions against the Kwankwaso-led faction.

Meanwhile, the only governor elected on the platform of the party, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, is finalising defection plans to the ruling All progressive Congress (APC).

However, the statement by spokesman of the Kwankwaso-led party said, “The persons behind this illegal protest are not members of the Party as established by the Federal High Court in Suit Number FHC/ABJ/CS/1354/2024 of April 18th, 2024, where Justice Emeka Nwite affirmed that they have ceased to be members of the Party following their expulsion by the appropriate Organs of the Party.

“We urge members to remain calm and ignore provocations by elements seeking to distract the party from its objectives,” he said.
