The people of Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State have sent a Save Our Souls (SOS) message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over what they described as decades of political exclusion in the Kwara North Senatorial District.

The stakeholders, in an open letter titled “Moro Local Government and the Quest for Justice in Kwara North,” said the local government had remained politically marginalised since the country’s return to democratic rule in 1999, despite being one of the five local governments in Kwara North.

They alleged that Moro had not produced a senator, member of the House of Representatives, minister, ambassador, or any major state or federal office holder in nearly 25 years of democratic governance.

According to the group, other local governments in the district, including Baruten, Edu, Kaiama, and Patigi, had repeatedly occupied strategic political positions at both the state and federal levels, while Moro remained excluded from the power structure.

The stakeholders said the alleged exclusion had contributed significantly to the underdevelopment of the area, especially in infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

They cited the deplorable condition of the Shao–Moro and Jebba–Moro roads, saying the poor state of the roads had continued to affect transportation, economic activities, and access to healthcare services in many communities.

They also lamented inadequate healthcare facilities and overcrowded schools in the area, arguing that Moro had suffered from years of poor political representation and lack of advocacy.

“Moro stands alone. For nearly a quarter of a century, Moro has not produced a senator, a member of the House of Representatives, a minister or ambassador, or any notable federal board appointee,” the stakeholders said.

They urged political leaders in Kwara State to support the emergence of a candidate from Moro for the Kwara North Senatorial seat in 2027, saying it would promote fairness, inclusion, and balanced political representation in the district.
