The Kwara State Sports Commission has inaugurated the Main Organising Committee (MOC), Local Organising Committee (LOC) and 12 sub-committees to oversee the successful staging of the state’s 8th Sports Festival.

The committees were inaugurated on Wednesday with a mandate to plan, coordinate and deliver a peaceful, transparent and impactful festival involving athletes from all 16 local government areas of the state.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Executive Chairman of the Commission and Chairman of the MOC, Bola Magaji, charged members of the various committees to hit the ground running and work within the stipulated timeframe.

Magaji also urged the committees to prepare realistic budgets that would support the effective implementation of the festival’s objectives.

He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his continued investment in sports development in the state, saying the approval for the staging of the eighth edition reflected the governor’s commitment to advancing sports in Kwara.

The sub-committees inaugurated include Ceremonial, Publicity and Media, Technical, Security, Accreditation, Accommodation, Feeding, Venues, Power and Transportation.

Responding, the LOC Chairman, Dr Steve Olarinoye, commended Governor AbdulRazaq for providing what he described as top-class sports facilities in the state.

Olarinoye also thanked Magaji for giving him and other members of the committee the opportunity to contribute to the development of sports in Kwara.

Former Director of Sports, Mrs Serah Bola Ẹsan, described Governor AbdulRazaq as a sports-loving governor who had contributed significantly to sports development in Kwara and Nigeria.

Ẹsan, however, called for proper maintenance of the sports facilities provided by the governor to ensure their longevity and continued use.

She also urged the State Sports Commission to uphold professionalism in the conduct of its affairs.

The 8th Kwara State Sports Festival is scheduled to take place from August 24 to 29 at the George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
