The senator representing Kwara North Senatorial District, Sadiq Umar, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in the state under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Umar’s declaration drew a large and diverse crowd comprising party leaders, youths, women groups, professionals, and community representatives from all 16 local government areas of the state.
Addressing supporters at the event held at the Baseball Stadium, Ilorin, Umar said his decision to join the race was driven by a sense of responsibility and commitment to the state’s development, rather than personal ambition.
He expressed optimism about the state’s future, stating that the next phase of leadership should focus on consolidating existing achievements while expanding development efforts.
He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for restoring public confidence, strengthening institutions, and advancing infrastructure development.
Umar unveiled a policy framework titled “Sustainable Progress for Kwara’s Shared Prosperity.”
The agenda outlines key priority areas, including improved energy supply through solar initiatives, enhanced security using community-based and technology-driven approaches, quality education, accessible healthcare, and economic growth driven by sectors such as agriculture, mining, tourism, and small businesses.
Other areas highlighted include youth empowerment through investments in technology, sports, and the creative economy, as well as infrastructure development aimed at boosting productivity and attracting investment.
He noted that governance should be measured by its direct impact on citizens’ daily lives, stressing the importance of inclusive and consistent development.
Speaking at the event, a former commissioner for Information in the state, Hon. Abdulmumin Katibi, described the development as significant for the state’s growth and progress.
He noted that Sen. Sadiq Suleiman Umar has recorded notable achievements and made meaningful impacts across the 16 local government areas of the state.
