La liga: Adams Ready For Villarreal Test

With just three games left in La Liga, Sevilla remain locked in a tense relegation battle, but Nigerian striker Akor Adams is refusing to let the pressure get to him.

The 26-year-old came off the bench to net a late winner in Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Espanyol, his ninth goal of the season making him the club’s top scorer.

Despite that feat, Adams had fallen out of favour with coach Luis Garcia, logging only four minutes across Sevilla’s previous two matches before being benched again against Espanyol.

Yet he silenced his doubters with the decisive strike, lifting Los Rojiblancos from 17th to 13th place and out of the drop zone.

Now, with tricky fixtures ahead starting with Wednesday’s trip to third-placed Villarreal, Adams insists the focus is on steady progress.

“We are focused on each game and on getting the three points,” he told Sevilla’s official website. “Now we will go to Villarreal and gradually keep taking steps towards achieving our target.”

He added: “I feel Sevilla in my heart and work every day for the club. This goal is very important because it helped us get the three points and make the fans happy.”

Adams also praised the team’s fighting spirit and the unwavering support from the stands. “The coach reminds us every day that Sevilla is a very important club,” he said.

“The support from the fans in the last two matches has been incredible… 90 minutes of running all over the pitch. These three points are very important for us, for the joy of the dressing room and of the city.”
