Nigerian forward Akor Adams is set to return to action for Sevilla after the international break, following a five-week absence due to a tendon injury.

Adams joined Sevilla in January after an 18-month stint at Ligue 1 side Montpellier. However, he managed just one appearance before sustaining the injury in early February. Initially expected to be sidelined for at least five weeks, the striker has been working on his recovery, returning to light training two weeks ago.

Despite his progress, he needed additional time to regain match fitness, ruling him out of Sevilla’s 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad at Anoeta on Sunday.

According to Dario de Sevilla, Adams is now expected to make his comeback after the international break, meaning he will miss Sevilla’s upcoming clash against Athletic Club.

The 24-year-old was initially included in Nigeria’s provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe but did not make the final 23-man selection. His extended recovery period, however, presents an opportunity to regain full fitness and prepare for a strong return.

While he is likely to start from the bench upon his return, Adams will be eager to make an impact and challenge for a starting spot. He faces stiff competition from Isaac Romero, who has cemented his place as Sevilla’s first-choice striker, while fellow Nigerian Sadiq Umar continues to impress. If Adams fails to find his form soon, he could face an uncertain future at the club, with a potential move to a smaller team on the horizon.

For now, all eyes will be on his return as he looks to get back on the scoresheet and prove his worth at Sevilla.
