The Labour Party has  criticised an activist Deji Adeyanju for allegedly blackmailing Peter Obi.

The interim national publicity secretary of LP, Prince Tony Akeni, in a statement released to newsmen yesterday in Abuja, accused Adeyanju of pursuing ambition without principle, likening his actions to a vice worse than substance abuse.

He alleged that Adeyanju’s attacks on Obi were part of a bid to secure relevance and political support ahead of the 2027 elections, following in the footsteps of former critics turned allies of President Bola Tinubu.

He dismissed Adeyanju’s recent claims that Obi had admitted to investing Anambra State funds in his family business while serving as governor. And termed the allegation as illogical and fabricated.

“A reputable journalist and author, was present in July 2022 when peter Obi, our presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, in his uncommon humility, simplicity and Amity, met Deji Adayanju for mutual conversation about their political interests, with Obi running for presidency and Deji for Municipal Federal constituency seat in the National Assembly on the platform of the Labour Party,” he said.

Akeni clarified that what Adeyanju may have misunderstood as bribery was actually a cultural gesture of goodwill, common in many African traditions. It criticized Adeyanju for his silence on violent attacks allegedly carried out by thugs loyal to Lagos transport union leader, MC Oluomo, at the Nigeria Union of Journalists headquarters in Abuja in November 2024, despite his frequent accusations of intolerance against the Obidient Movement.

He concluded by stating that Nigerians see through Adeyanju’s falsehoods and that his actions are driven by desperate ambition rather than principle.
