National publicity secretary of Labour Party, Dr Abayomi Arabambi, has asked the party’s leaders to put their house in order to achieve success at the 2027 general elections.
Arabambi, who stated this at a briefing in Abuja yesterday, said fighting and contesting the results of the 2023 general elections that brought President Bola Tinubu to power would not help the party at this stage.
He said: “In the last couple of weeks and days, we have taken a closer examination of unfolding events in our dear party, Labour Party (LP).
“But the kernel of this press conference this afternoon is to call attention to witting and unwitting actions which we consider a threat to our party chances in 2027.”
He further stated that Labour Party is not a tool for any rebellious group, noting that the leaders should not destroy its chances in 2027.
“It is totally undemocratic to assume their position. You claimed to have a Supreme Court judgment that favoured you and yet you are still condemning the same Supreme Court that affirmed President Bola Tinubu’s election. This is treason. Must you be complaining about the 2023 presidential election now when another presidential election is coming in 2027 or be focused on how we are going to have the presidency in 2027?
“To us, Alert Otti’s group is engaging in distractions. With that type of statement, both should be placed under strict security surveillance before it is turned to another thing.
“We will never allow Labour Party to be used as a tool for rebellion and they should not present us as a rebellious group,” Arabambi added.
Speaking on the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Arabambi said: “You would recall that in a press release dated April 8, 2025 signed by the national president of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero, he directed the leadership of the NLC Political Commission and other concerned to once again violently repossess all offices of Labour Party nationwide.
Comrade Joe Ajaero also stated that Labour Party stakeholders would issue necessary directives to that effect.
“This threat or move by the NLC president Ajaero to take over the Labour Party secretariat in all 36 states of Nigeria could lead to chaos, breakdown of law and order.”
