The Lagos State House of Assembly has denied a publication’s report alleging that 27 members of the House are planning to defect from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to the Labour Party (LP), saying it is entirely false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.

The Lawmakers said the publication was offensive, riddled with inaccuracies and outright falsehoods, and served no purpose other than to sow discord and confusion within the Assembly and the good people of Lagos State.

According to a statement signed by Chairman Information, Strategy and Security, Hon (Otumba) Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, the recent removal of erstwhile Speaker, Hon Mudashiru Obasa and the election of Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda is the new Speaker, and these are purely internal matters.
The statement read, in part, “These actions were carried out by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as Amended.

“These events in no way suggest any intention by members to leave the party. Without any ambiguity, we would like to emphasize that no Assembly member is considering defection.

“We were elected under the Leadership of the Ruling Party. The ruling party remains united and focused on delivering its mandate to the people of Lagos State.

“The falsehood being spread originates from agents of destabilisation who seek to create unnecessary tension and division within the Assembly.
