Lagos State government on Tuesday said it has concluded plans to host the 67th edition of the National Council on Education (NCE).
The state commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in Lagos, Jamiu Alli-Balogun who revealed this at a press conference in Lagos explained that the National Council on Education is a national meeting which has a cycle of three statutory meetings held annually.
According to him, the meetings are, the Joint Consultative Committee on Education (JCCE) Reference Committee Meeting; Joint Consultative Committee On Education (JCCE) Plenary Meeting and the National Council on Education.
Alli-Balogun said, ‘’Lagos State is set to host the National Council on Education (NCE) being the last in the series, Makurdi and Abia States hosted the Reference and Plenary respectively.
“The NCE is the highest policy making body of education in Nigeria and saddled with the responsibility of considering and subsequent ratification of the recommendations from the JCCE Plenary meeting. The meeting will be held from Monday 11th to Friday 15th December, 2023 at Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja.
“The theme for this cycle is ‘Addressing the challenges of Policy Implementation: A Panacea for the Education Achievement of 2030 Agenda.’’
The commissioner said delegates and top government officials expected NCE include the Minister of Education who serves as the Chairman. the Minister of State for Education My colleague, Commissioners of Education from the 36 States of the federation states’ Permanent Secretaries of Education, Education Secretary (FCT) Professional Directors the Secretary JCCE/NCE Matters Desk Officers.
“Other Stakeholders are, the Nigerian Education Research and Development Council (NERDC) Ministry of Defence Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) National Mathematical Centre, Paramilitary Organisations Civil Society Organisations Private Associations.’’
The commissioner added that the Governor of Lagos State Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu will be the Special Guest during the Ministerial Session, saying adequate preparation has been made for a successful hosting in terms of transportation, security and other logistics.
