The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, was among the notable attendees who arrived at the 17th edition of The Headies Awards, currently taking place at the Eko Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event, themed “Back to Base” and “Apologetically African,” celebrates the richness of African music and marks a significant return to Nigeria after two consecutive years in Atlanta, Georgia.
LEADERSHIP recalls that the ceremony experienced a delay with the red carpet event, initially scheduled for 5pm, not commencing as planned.
Despite the initial setbacks, the awards proceeded, honouring outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry. Notably, Rema led the nominations with nine nods, reflecting his significant impact on the music scene during the eligibility period from April 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024.
The 17th Headies also introduced two new categories: “Soundtrack of the Year” and “Best Performer (Live),” expanding the scope of recognition for artists’ contributions to the industry.
