The Lagos State Police Command has launched investigation into a viral video showing students of Excel College in the Ejigbo area of the state for engaging in smoking, drinking and partying within the school’s boys’ hostel.
The video, which recently surfaced online, has stirred widespread public condemnation.
In response, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to take over the case from the Ejigbo Police Division.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the investigation in a statement issued to newsmen.
According to Adebisi, preliminary findings revealed that the incident occurred in April 2025 but only came to public attention after the video was circulated on social media platforms.
According to the PPRO, the school’s principal who is also the proprietor was invited for questioning and claimed that the students involved had already completed their education at the time the video emerged.
She stated, “The principal of the school, who also serves as the proprietor, was invited for questioning and stated that the students seen in the viral video had already graduated and left the institution.”
Despite this, police maintained that the investigation remains active as officers from the SCID were working closely with the school management to determine how such behavior occurred within the premises and what measures can prevent similar incidents in the future.
“The school management is cooperating fully with investigators to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
“All parties are committed to ensuring that such disturbing and inappropriate behavior does not recur within the school environment.” SP Adebisi said.
The Lagos State Police Command called on educational institutions, parents, and guardians to strengthen supervision and moral guidance for young people.
“We urge all secondary school authorities, both public and private, as well as parents and guardians, to take proactive steps in properly supervising and guiding their children and wards,” the police spokesperson added.
“It is vital to instill in them the importance of maintaining good behavior, upholding moral values, and avoiding any form of misconduct.”
The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, law, and order across the state and promised that the findings of the ongoing investigation would be made public once concluded.
