A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Olaide Akinremi who died recently has been honoured with the Democracy Heroes Award Africa at an event organised to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary.
He represented Ibadan North Federal constituency and was the chairman, House Committee on Science Research. The award was received on his behalf by his personal assistant, Hon. Isaac Lale Obele.
The award recognises political leaders for their contributions to deepening democracy in the country. It also recognises entrepreneurs and entertainers whose contributions have helped in entrenching stability through job creation, youth empowerment and poverty alleviation measures.
Other members of the National Assembly and aides of the former lawmaker also joined in the stage to receive the award.
He was a known supporter of the entertainment sector and has supported several projects, including the Democracy Heroes Award.
Democracy Heros Award Africa is hosted by Face of Democracy Nigeria (FDN).
The project director, Olufunsho Ajagbonna, acknowledged the impact the late lawmaker made during his lifetime.
He was honoured along with the governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, his Ebonyi and Kaduna counterparts, Francis Nwifuru and Uba Sani.
Others include the Governor of Niger State, Umar Mohammed Bago, member representing Ikeja federal constituency of Lagos State, Rt. Hon. James Faleke and member representing Jos South/East Federal constituency, Hon. Dachung Bagos.
