American singer and rapper, Lauryn Hill, has drawn attention to her unpaid tax issues.
The record producer is currently subject to two active state tax liens totalling hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to records from the New Jersey Division of Taxation.
The filings show that the first lien shows an unpaid balance of $133,246. A second filing lists a substantial amount of $758,912.02. Both remain active within the state’s public system.
For the Grammy-winning singer, the situation recalls a past chapter that put her in the national spotlight for tax-related legal troubles.
Meanwhile, representatives for the ‘Killing Me Softly with His Song’ singer note the issue is already in progress through a repayment plan arranged with the state of New Jersey. According to the statement, the singer is adhering to an agreement intended to solve the unpaid balances.
The representative noted that the debt is linked to financial pressure connected to a cancelled tour. A planned concert run that comprised Hill and members of Fugees, which had been arranged for 2024. The tour was eventually called off shortly before the first show was set to begin.
Touring revenue often plays a large role in supporting large production budgets, crew payments and operational expenses. When a tour is called off, the spillover effects can disrupt cash flow across several areas of a project.
In this case, representatives say the financial blow contributed to the tax payments that are now listed as outstanding by state officials.
