Lawal Daura Dumps ADC, Joins APM Ahead Of 2027

Former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Musa Daura, has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Daura, who was a governorship aspirant under the ADC in Katsina State, announced his decision on Sunday at the Munaj Event Centre in Katsina, where he addressed a large gathering of supporters.

The former DSS chief said his decision followed months of consultations and political planning, stressing that his period of silence was not an indication of fear or withdrawal from politics.

“I have been silent for some months, but that silence was not because I was afraid. I was making plans and consulting on the direction of my political ambition,” Daura said.

He said he ventured into politics because of his concerns over insecurity, poor leadership and the economic challenges confronting Nigerians.

According to him, his political ambition was not driven by personal interests but by a desire to contribute to efforts to address the country’s challenges.

“I joined politics not to achieve personal ambition, but because of my concern for Nigeria and its people. I believe we must struggle to rescue our country from insecurity, bad leadership and economic crisis,” he said.

Daura described the APM as a platform capable of winning elections and called on his supporters and other Nigerians seeking change to support the party ahead of the 2027 polls.

“APM is a winning party, and I call on all Nigerians who want a better country to support and vote for the party in the coming general election,” he said.

He urged his supporters to remain united, patient and committed, saying details of his political activities under the new platform would soon be unveiled.

Earlier, Director-General of the Daura Campaign Organisation, Ali Sani, described the turnout at the event as evidence of Daura’s growing political influence in Katsina and the wider northern region.

Sani said Daura’s entry into the APM would strengthen the party and expand its political presence in the state.

The Katsina State Chairman of the APM, Nura Abdullahi, welcomed Daura and his supporters into the party, assuring them of equal treatment.

He said the party had structures across the state’s 361 wards and 6,562 polling units, providing a platform for the new members to participate in its political activities.

Several speakers at the event pledged their loyalty to Daura and expressed their readiness to support his political ambition.

The defection comes as political parties and aspirants intensify preparations and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Daura’s movement from the ADC to the APM could introduce a new dimension to the Katsina governorship contest, particularly if he succeeds in transferring his existing political support base to his new party

Main while, the former secretary to the government of Katsina state, Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa also left the ADC party to the All Progressive Congress ( APC) same day. This development will definitely affect the ADC political movement in the state and the nation at large.
