Member representing Mubi South/North and Maiha federal constituency, Hon Ja’afar Magaji, has condemned the killing of Samaila Hamidu and one other on 31 August 2024 in Mubi by the military.
Magaji in an interview with LEADERSHIP Friday, urged the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, to wade into the matter with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book.
He urged his constituents to remain calm, not to take law into their hands, calling on government to fish out those that committed the crime.
However, the Headquarters of the 23 Brigade Nigerian Army in Yola has denied the killing of the victim.
Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Lt Adebayo Adewumi refuted the claims in a statement made available in Yola, yesterday.
Adewumi said the victim upon sighting the troops deployed at Sebore Nasarawo Ward, Mubi South LGA, to conduct routine patrols aimed at deterring criminal activities fled and subsequently suffered a lone accident as his motorcycle veered into a ditch nearby.
“The victim upon sighting the troops, the victim, unfortunately, fled and subsequently suffered a lone accident as his motorcycle veered into a ditch nearby.’’
He said the troops immediately rendered assistance by rushing the victim to Mubi General Hospital and notifying the policemen stationed at Nasarawo Ward.
According to him, despite all efforts to save his life, the victim tragically passed away at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the Adamawa State House of Assembly, through a motion by Hon. Yohanna Sahabo Jauro, a member representing Mubi South Constituency, raised concern over the alleged killing.
