Bishop of Abeokuta Diocese of the Catholic Church, Most Rev. Peter Olukayode Odetoyinbo, yesterday urged Nigerian leaders to seek divine intervention for solutions to the nation’s economic, security, and political problems.

Odetoyinbo particularly urged the leaders to critically review all their activities and policies and stop toying with the lives of the citizens.

The bishop made the call on the sideline of his 10th Episcopal Ordination Anniversary held at the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Cathedral, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

He said Catholic bishops and other clerics had, at different fora, issued position papers calling on politicians to be fair and just and uphold conscientious fear of God.

Emphasising that the challenges are not peculiar to Nigeria, Odetoyinbo suggested divine intervention as the only solution to the nation’s problems, stressing that leadership in Nigeria must work towards fulfilling the needs of the people they serve.

While also calling on followers to always pray for their leaders to lead with justice and fairness, the Catholic Bishop said Nigerians need to be sincere in their service to the nation.

He said Nigerians should shun immorality and join hands with the leaders in finding enduring solutions to the nation’s challenges,

Dwelling on his 10th episcopal anniversary, Odetoyinbo thanked God for his grace over the past 10 years as a bishop and prayed for more grace in the journey ahead.

Earlier, while delivering the homily at the church mass, the Catholic Bishop of Makurdi, Bishop Chikpa Wilfred Anagbe, called on  religious leaders to see their callings as a call to serve and deplete the kingdom of darkness.
