A philanthropist, Summers Vitus Nwokie, has described the Supreme Court judgement on financial autonomy for local governments as President Bola Tinubu’s best gift to Nigerians so far.

Ikukuoma, also known as Ikukuoma Mbaise, spoke with newsmen in Owerri stressing that financial autonomy for local governments would reduce the sufferings of the rural dwellers at the community level in Nigeria.

He also called for the implementation of the Supreme Court judgment to the fullest for the benefit of citizens.

“This is the best gift to Nigerians from President Bola Tinubu this year. What it means is that the president really means business. This is an effort towards bringing good governance to the local people.

“If this is sustained, believe me, things will start getting better and the hardship will start going down. The president should put further efforts to sustain it; he should see to the holistic implementation of the judgment.

“For several decades, Nigerians have suffered because they have been denied the benefits of good governance. The reason is simple; the local governments were abandoned and now there is a relief and all we’re saying is that it should be maintained, sustained to make sure that Nigerians feel the positive impact,” he said.
