Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri, has asked the chairmanship aspirants under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform to nominate women as their running mates in the forthcoming local government election in the state.
The state Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Umar, affirmed that the council elections would be held on July 13, 2024, in the 21 LGAs in the state.
Fintiri gave the order yesterday during the PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Yola, the state capital.
He said the move is to ensure inclusivity in governance and include women and youths in the present administration.
According to him, the PDP, as a party in the state, would prioritise women and youth by giving them opportunities and equal playing ground at all levels.
He cautioned the stakeholders against acts of sabotage during the polls.
“Ensure you nominate women as PDP running mate in the July 13 council elections. I want everyone to handle it with all sense of commitment,” he said.
Earlier, the state chairman of the PDP, Barrister Tahir Shehu, said the meeting was to brainstorm ahead of the election.
Tahir called on the contestants to embrace whoever emerges as PDP flag bearers for chairmanship and councillorship positions.
He asked the aspirants to ensure the election was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.
