A Labour Party governorship aspirant in Benue State, Dr. Mathias Byuan, has denied participating in the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in the state.
Byuan said his inclusion in the list of APC governorship aspirants was unauthorized, insisting that he had resigned from the ruling party earlier in May.
The APC had released the names of cleared aspirants for the Benue governorship primaries on Thursday, with Byuan’s name appearing among the contestants.
However, in a statement issued on Thursday, Byuan said he was no longer a member of the APC and had formally withdrawn from all activities relating to the party’s governorship process.
According to him, he resigned his membership of the APC on May 7, 2026, and communicated the decision to his ward chairman and the party’s national leadership.
He also stated that he submitted a formal withdrawal letter to the APC screening committee and completed other documentation to notify the party of his exit.
“For the avoidance of doubt, any list or publication bearing my name as an aspirant cleared to contest for the APC governorship ticket is false and unauthorized,” he said.
Byuan added that he is now seeking the Benue governorship ticket under the Labour Party and had already completed the party’s screening process ahead of its primaries scheduled for May 30, 2026.
He called on party members, supporters and the public to disregard reports linking him to the APC governorship primaries in the state.
The governorship aspirant also said he remains supportive of President Bola Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda.
