The Catholic Men Organisation (CMO) of the Lugbe Deanery, within the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, will launch its highly anticipated 2026 Lugbe Deanery CMO Football Tournament on Saturday, 9th May 2026. The tournament will run under the theme “Building Bonds of Brotherhood”.

This information was released in a press statement signed by Brother Michael Jegede and Brother Anselm Okoro, Chairman and Secretary respectively of the Media, Publicity and Protocol subcommittee for the tournament.

According to the press statement: “The Lugbe Deanery Catholic Men Organisation (CMO) of the Archdiocese of Abuja is delighted to announce the start of its 2026 Football Tournament, officially kicking off on Saturday, 9th May 2026.

“The tournament promises to be an exciting display of talent, and aims to foster fellowship, brotherhood, faith-based networking, unity and fitness among Catholic men across the 26 parishes and pastoral areas within the Lugbe Deanery, through the medium of sport.

“The preliminary stage will feature 26 teams, comprising registered CMO members from each of the deanery’s parishes and pastoral areas, drawn into six groups as follows:

GROUP A: St. Martins (Lugbe), Queen of Martyrs (Sabon Lugbe), St. Linus (Chika/Aleita), St. Anthony (Paseli) and St. Peter (Aco Estate).

GROUP B: St Monica (Sauka Kahuta), St. Francis (Pegi), St. Peter & Paul (New Site), St. Anthony (Gbessa) and Blessed Iwensi Tansi (Pyakasa).

GROUP C: St. John Mary-Vianney (Trademore), St. Augustine (Lugbe), St. Kizito (Kuje) and St. Helena (River Park).

GROUP D: Our Lady of Fatima (Karamajigi), Holy Family (Gosa), St Stephen (Gbaupe) and St. Theresa of Calcutta (Jeda).

GROUP E: St Michael (Piwoyi), St. Mary (Tudun Wada), St. Joseph (Lugbe Across) and St. Peter (Chukuku).

GROUP F: Sacred Heart (Airport), Infant Jesus (Iddo), Holy Ghost (Gudaba) and Holy Cross (Kuchingoro).

“Further details regarding fixtures, venues, and competition guidelines will be shared with all parishes and pastoral areas in due course. We encourage all Lugbe Deanery CMO members, parishioners, and football enthusiasts to come out and support their teams, and to enjoy the spirit of Catholic brotherhood.”

The CMO, a prominent, statutory, and parish-based organisation, serves as an umbrella body for all men (married or not) in the Catholic Church in Nigeria. It was established as a vital pillar of the church, bringing men closer to Christ and promoting their spiritual, moral, and social development.

With St. Joseph the Worker, the foster-father of Jesus, as its Patron Saint, the CMO provides a supportive brotherhood that encourages men to be active and responsible leaders in the family, church, and society. Contributing significantly to the church’s apostolic mission, the CMO also engages in philanthropy, charitable works, community service, and mentorship.
