Maigida Takes Over As NAF Spokesman

Air Cdr Wapkerem Maigida has taken over as the director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI) following a shake up in the Nigerian Airforce.

Air Cdr Maigida, the erstwhile commander of 551 NAF Station switched position with his immediate predecessor, Air Cdr Edward Gabkwet on Friday.

Maigida called on the media to see the security challenges as a collective responsibility that needs all hands to address.

He said, “I’m fully aware of the responsibility of my office as director of Public Relations and Information which is to superintend the operational engagement of the NAF and other activities of the NAF aimed at galvanising support and goodwill for the NAF as we strive to project air power to conquer the myriad of security challenges bedeviling our country.

“These challenges, we must all work together in resolving them as partners in efforts anchored on trust and respect.”

He commended the contributions of his immediate predecessor, Air Cdr Gabkwet for steering the affairs of the directorate and pledged to continue to consolidate on his achievements and continue to consult him where and when necessary.

He charged defence correspondents to remain steadfast in enlightening the public about happenings in the NAF and other security sectors.

“You must use your reportage to shape public perception about the NAF towards endearing national defence and security of the country. Thus, I believe this will boost combat efficiency and effectiveness of the NAF towards enhancing air power capabilities to confront the enemies of our dear country,” he said

Earlier, the commander, 551 NAF Station Jos, Air Cdr Gabkwet thanked journalists for their support while he presided over the information directorate and solicited the same support for the new director.
