National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman Shehu Dikko has described the appointment of Nigerian Samson Adamu as the new General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as a significant opportunity for Nigeria to strengthen its influence in the administration and development of African football.
Dikko said having a Nigerian occupy the influential position would deliver enormous benefits to the country, urging Adamu to use his new office to improve the fortunes of the continental game.
The NSC chairman made the remarks while receiving Adamu during a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters.
He charged the new CAF chief administrator to make a lasting impact by driving reforms, strengthening the organisation and repositioning African football for greater global recognition.
Dikko also urged Adamu to ensure CAF becomes the best version of itself, stressing the importance of using the opportunity to advance the interests of African football as a whole.
Adamu’s emergence as CAF General Secretary represents a significant milestone for Nigeria, placing a Nigerian in one of the most influential administrative positions in African football.
Dikko’s remarks underline the expectations surrounding Adamu’s appointment, particularly the hope that his experience and position will contribute to improved football governance, administration and development across the continent.
