The man who lunged at Ariana Grande during the ‘Wicked: For Good’ premiere in Singapore has been deported and banned from returning to the country after serving a nine-day jail sentence.
Johnson Wen, 26, an Australian national who jumped over a barricade at the event on November 13 and charged at the singer, was sent back to Australia on Sunday, November 23, according to reports from BBC News, citing the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and local media.
Known online as “Pyjama Man”, Wen has a history of disrupting celebrity appearances. The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) confirmed that he is now “barred from re-entering Singapore.”
Wen pleaded guilty to one count of being a public nuisance on November 17 and completed a nine-day jail term.
His sentencing came just four days after the incident, which occurred as Grande walked the red carpet at Universal Studios Singapore for the premiere of the new ‘Wicked’ film.
In the footage that went viral, Wen can be seen running toward Grande, wrapping his arm around her and pulling her close as she struggles to escape his grip.
Event security, along with Grande’s ‘Wicked’ co-star Cynthia Erivo, intervened quickly to separate Wen from the singer, who appeared visibly shaken.
During sentencing, a Singapore judge described Wen as “attention-seeking” and noted that he wrongly assumed his actions would have no consequences, according to The New York Times.
Although Wen assured the judge he would not “do it again,” prosecutors highlighted what they called his “glaring lack of remorse.”
Reports indicated that Wen has repeatedly made headlines for crashing celebrity events. He has previously stormed stages at concerts featuring stars such as Katy Perry and The Weeknd over the past summer.
