Manchester United Issue Rashford No. 14 Jersey

Manchester United have issued Marcus Rashford the No. 14 jersey for the 2026/2027 campaign, a clear symbolic gesture to reintegrate the forward into the first-team fold following a loan spell at Barcelona.

The 28-year-old England international, who wore the iconic No. 10 shirt before his temporary departure last season, returns to Carrington to find that number now occupied by new signing Matheus Cunha.

With Barcelona declining their purchase option and no other European suitor tabling a permanent bid, United’s hierarchy have moved decisively to assign Rashford a fresh squad number as a public vote of confidence.

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the decision is deliberately strategic: “Manchester United decide to give Marcus Rashford new squad number as message to trust him and include as part of the team.”

Romano further confirmed that Rashford will travel with the squad for preseason fixtures in the No. 14 kit, and that the club will only entertain a sale if a “top European club” submits an acceptable offer before the window closes.

Rashford, who scored 12 goals in all competitions during his year at Camp Nou, is now expected to feature prominently in manager Micheal Carrick’s plans unless a late Champions League-caliber bid matmaterialises.

The No. 14 shirt, previously worn by United legends such as Ryan Giggs and, more recently, Jesse Lingard, carries its own weight of expectation as the academy graduate attempts to resurrect his Old Trafford career.
