Manchester United have been presented with the opportunity to sign Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo before the summer transfer window slams shut, according to transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.
The Red Devils have spent the bulk of their transfer business reinforcing the centre of midfield, landing Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos, and Carlos Baleba from fellow Premier League sides. But with the deadline rapidly approaching and United already stung by a 2-0 opening-weekend defeat to Hull City, manager Michael Carrick is now exploring options to strengthen other areas of his squad.
Jacobs reports that United have been given the green light to pursue the 28-year-old centre-back as a rotational defensive option. Since arriving at Stamford Bridge on a free transfer from Fulham in 2024, Tosin has made 38 Premier League appearances. However, he was conspicuously absent from Chelsea’s matchday squad during their 3-2 win over his former club Fulham on Monday, fuelling speculation over his immediate future.
Interestingly, Tosin was on the verge of joining United in 2024 before opting to sign for Chelsea instead. Now, with the Blues having already invested £52 million in Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix this summer and closing in on a £30 million deal for Atalanta’s young defender Honest Ahanor, the London club appear willing to let the English defender depart.
Beyond their interest in Tosin, United are also actively seeking a left-back before the transfer deadline to provide both support and genuine competition for first-choice Luke Shaw.
