“Hello Chinese S3”, a Chinese-language teaching programme jointly produced by the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation of China’s Ministry of Education and StarTimes, has concluded its season after 40 consecutive weeks on air.
In a press release, Ms Liu, programme coordinator and ST Guide Channel manager, said Mandarin was increasingly serving as a vital bridge for mutual understanding and career development.
“The aim is to make Mandarin accessible and enjoyable, so that learners at any level can truly savour the process of acquiring a new language,” Liu said.
She explained that the programme combined language instruction, human-interest segments and coverage of China-Africa exchanges.
The language lessons were built around real-life scenarios and focused on practical vocabulary and everyday expressions, with content pitched at learners of different proficiency levels, Liu said.
The programme also filmed at Confucius Institutes in Africa, covering curriculum design, local teaching practices, cultural activities and events including the “Chinese Bridge” Competition and International Chinese Language Day.
It featured interviews with guests from China and Africa and profiled 20 Chinese and African individuals in documentary-style segments.
The programme ran in the same period as the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.
