Masobe Books has announced the forthcoming publication of Beneath the Surface: Essays on Nigeria’s Chequered Journey, a penetrating new collection by syndicated columnist and public-policy turnaround expert, Dr. Dakuku Peterside.
The title, slated for simultaneous Nigerian and international release in October 2025, will debut with public presentations in Lagos and Abuja.
In the volume, Peterside strips away familiar rhetoric to examine Nigeria from every angle: the thrum of its economy, the maze of its governance, the restless energy of its youth, the trials of leadership, the scars of conflict and the nation’s evolving place on the global stage.
A former legislator and chief executive in the maritime sector, Dr. Peterside has served in the legislative and executive branches of government at the local, state, and federal levels.
His earlier titles, Strategic Turnaround and Leading in a Storm, are widely used as case studies in leadership and crisis management across Nigeria’s public sector.
Written with the author’s trademark clarity and candour, the essays offer a 360-degree exposé that challenges assumptions and invites fresh debate on the forces shaping Africa’s largest democracy.
In its early critical reception, Kenyan jurist Professor P. L. O. Lumumba calls the book “a manual every conscientious person in authority should read.”
Bishop Matthew Kukah also praises it as “a window for future exploration of the options for a new Nigeria.” At the same time, Professor Kyari Mohammed hails the work as “a must-read for policymakers, academics, and the general reader.”
