The governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, has described workers in the state as the “engine room” of his administration, reaffirming his government’s commitment to their welfare and productivity.

The governor made this known during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration held at Ndubuisi Kanu Square, Owerri, on Friday, where he was represented by the deputy governor, Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, Lady Ekomaru commended the dedication, resilience, and sacrifices of Imo workers, noting that their contributions remain critical to the ongoing transformation of the state.

She emphasised that the administration recognises Imo workers as the driving force behind effective governance and sustainable development in the state, assuring that the government will continue to appreciate their efforts.

In his address, chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Imo State chapter, Comrade Uche Chigaemezu Nwigwe, lauded Governor Uzodimma as a worker-friendly leader.

He appreciated Imo government’s initiatives under Governor Hope Uzodimma, such as increased minimum wage, provision of official vehicles for permanent secretaries, provision of shuttle buses for workers, enrollment of workers into health insurance scheme, rehabilitation of the state secretariat, restoration of electricity at the secretariat, prompt and consistent salary payments, noting that the administration’s 3R agenda is visible across sectors.

He also praised the governor for the improved security in the state and many other sterling achievements, while demanding that the government intervenes in few of their challenges, including harmonization of salaries and pensions.
