A medical doctor, Dr. Ere Ogbachi, has died in Bayelsa State following complications that developed shortly after she delivered triplets at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH), Okolobiri.

She was later moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, where she died at about 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, according to a family statement released on Wednesday.

The announcement was made by her brother, Meshack Sintei, who confirmed that she initially gave birth successfully before her condition suddenly worsened.

“She successfully gave birth to triplets at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri… complications arose that eventually forced us to rush her to the Intensive Care Unit in FMC Yenagoa,” the family statement read.

According to the family, medical personnel made sustained efforts to save her life after she was admitted into the ICU, but her condition deteriorated rapidly.

“We watched her struggling to live, we watched her gasping for breath, we watched how the team of doctors and other experts in FMC kept trying their best to revive her,” the statement added.

The family further disclosed that her oxygen levels dropped sharply during emergency intervention.

“The SpO2 machine in the ICU began reading downwards from 70 to 50 and then to 0,” it said.

Sintei, in his tribute, described the loss as devastating, noting that she died at exactly 2:45 a.m. on April 14.

“It was a painful experience… my beloved sister died at exactly 2:45 am on April 14th 2026. A generation has been lost, and the Sintei family mourns,” he said.

He also described her as a committed medical professional who “was a fighter to the end,” and expressed appreciation for the support received from well-wishers during the difficult moment.

Until her death, Dr. Ogbachi was a wife, mother of triplets, a medical doctor and registrar at NDUTH, as well as a member of the Nigerian Medical Association and an alumna of Niger Delta University.

Hospital authorities were yet to issue an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
