Arsenal’s summer signing Mikel Merino has been ruled out for up to two months after injuring his shoulder, according to a new report.

The former Real Sociedad man was bought by the Gunners for £31.6 million last month but suffered a fractured shoulder in his first training with the London outfit. Mikel Arteta had confirmed that the 28-year-old would be sidelined for weeks but it now emerges that he will miss close to two months of football in total, according to report by the Daily Mail

Merino had been set to make his debut against Brighton last weekend but was absent from the squad because of the injury. Declan Rice was sent off in that game for a controversial double yellow card and Merino would have been one of the obvious replacements for the England international for the trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after the international break.

However, the Euro 2024 winner will be absent from that game, as well as several important clashes afterwards. Arsenal welcome Bolton Wanderers to the Emirates in the Carabao Cup later this month before league meetings against Manchester City, Leicester City and Southampton – which are all set to come too soon for Merino
