Nigeria, the reigning champions and ten-time winners of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), are set to play two friendly matches against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses. These fixtures, part of their preparations for this year’s WAFCON in Morocco, will take place in Yaounde during the FIFA Women’s International Window from 24th February to 7th March 2026.
The Super Falcons will clash with the Indomitable Lionesses in the Cameroonian capital on Saturday, 28th February, and again on Tuesday, 3rd March 2026.
It’s worth noting that these two formidable teams previously met in a friendly before last year’s WAFCON, also hosted by Morocco, where the Falcons secured a 2-0 victory at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta.
Dr Mohammed Sanusi, MON, General Secretary of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), stated: “We have finalised all arrangements for these two friendly matches in conjunction with our Cameroonian counterparts, FECAFOOT. Our commitment is to ensure the Super Falcons are meticulously prepared to defend their WAFCON title in Morocco and qualify for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil.”
Isaac Mandong, FECAFOOT General Secretary, added: “We are thrilled by the opportunity to host the Nigerian national team and to bolster the relationship between our two federations through this collaboration.”
The Confederation of African Football has confirmed the 13th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will run from 17th March to 3rd April in the Kingdom of Morocco. All four semi-finalists from the tournament will automatically qualify for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil.
The Super Falcons clinched their tenth Women’s AFCON title in Morocco last summer, overcoming Tunisia, Botswana, Zambia, South Africa, and the host nation, Morocco, along the way.
