Morocco have joined an exclusive group of African football nations after becoming only the third team from the continent to reach the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup in consecutive tournaments.

The Atlas Lions achieved the feat by securing progression beyond the group phase for a second straight World Cup, placing them alongside Nigeria and Ghana in the history books.

Nigeria were the first African side to accomplish the milestone, advancing to the knockout rounds at the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cups. Ghana later matched the achievement with back-to-back appearances in the knockout stages at the 2006 and 2010 tournaments.
