Midfielder Mason Mount believes Manchester United have the quality and mentality required to mount a serious Premier League title challenge next season, as the club continues its rebuilding process.
United have not lifted the league title since 2013, when the legendary Alex Ferguson signed off with a final triumph. In the years since, inconsistency and managerial changes have prevented a sustained push for domestic dominance.
However, Mount is optimistic that the current squad can reverse that trend. “I’ve won the Champions League already, so I have a goal of winning the Premier League,” he said. “Can we do that? Yes, I think we can.”
The 27-year-old acknowledged that the ambition may seem ambitious given recent struggles, including a disappointing 15th-place finish last season, but stressed the importance of belief within the squad. “You must have that mentality to push yourself as a group,” he added.
Mount pointed to positive performances against top sides such as Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea as evidence of the team’s potential, while emphasising the need for greater consistency across a full campaign.
His own season has been disrupted by injuries and limited starts, raising questions about his role in different tactical systems under Michael Carrick. Nevertheless, Mount remains confident in his ability to contribute meaningfully.
“I will always back myself. I know what I can bring,” he said, expressing a desire to help restore the club to its former stature.
United are closing in on a return to Champions League football following a recent victory over Brentford, and Mount believes competing at the highest European level will be crucial to their development.
Reflecting on his FA Cup success with the club, he added: “To win the Premier League would be something special.” For Mount and United, the long-term objective is clear—reclaiming their place at the summit of English football.
