Recall that the Apo Six were five young spare-parts traders and a female companion (Ifeanyi Ozor, Chinedu Meniru, Augustina Arebu, Anthony Nwokike, Paulinus Ogbonna, and Ekene Isaac Mgbe) who were murdered by Nigerian police officers in June 2005.
The officers falsely claimed the victims were armed robbers. A judicial panel revealed that a senior officer allegedly ordered the killings after a dispute at an Abuja nightclub. The primary officer accused of orchestrating the murders was eventually freed and reinstated, while two junior officers were sentenced to death.
