MTN Nigeria has rebranded its fibre broadband service to FibreX to advance its broadband strategy and support nationwide connectivity.

The rebrand from MTN Fibre Broadband to FibreX signals a renewed focus on expanding broadband services in line with Nigeria’s National Broadband Plan (NBP) 2020–2025, which targets 70 per cent broadband penetration and minimum internet speeds of 25 Mbps in urban areas and 10 Mbps in rural regions by 2025.

The chief broadband officer at MTN Nigeria, Egerton Idehen, who disclosed this to LEADERSHIP, over the weekend, in Lagos, highlighted the company’s dedication to accelerating Nigeria’s digital journey.

“By enhancing our infrastructure and services, we aim to bridge the digital divide and foster inclusive growth,” he said.

FibreX will play a vital role in supporting the federal government’s broadband expansion initiative, which aims to extend Nigeria’s fibre-optic network from 35,000 km to 125,000 km. MTN’s upgraded service, powered by its robust Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) infrastructure, promises high-speed, dependable internet connectivity for households and businesses nationwide.

The new FibreX brand not only reflects a modern, customer-centric identity but also aims to increase awareness and adoption in “home-passed” areas—locations where fibre infrastructure is ready for activation. MTN sees this rebranding as key to sparking consumer interest and boosting broadband uptake across Nigeria.

As the nation continues its push toward digital inclusion, MTN’s FibreX is set to be a driving force in delivering next-generation internet solutions to both urban and underserved communities.
